If you cheated and looked over at the picture, you know that this week's IMPACT player of the week is not the obvious choice.
For many, winning the TNA Title would make this an easy choice. Problem is, I'm not many. Heck, I'm not even a few. I'm one man, the Mouth of the Sout Shore, and I see things a bit differently. Regardless of what I hear around me, I come to my own decisions, and that is why you are seeing what you are seeing. The fact is, I do NOT like Sting's new gimmick.
Many are digging Sting's "joker" gimmick, but not me. It's a bit too hokey for my liking and something just feels off about it. I can't really put my finger on it, but it's just a bit too over the top for me. Thus, I'm not going to be giving Sting the IMPACT player of the week anytime soon. He got it right before this Joker stuff started and back then, he deserved it. Now, he's just being ridiculous and I'm not a fan of it.
What I am a fan of is the man that did earn the IMPACT player of the week, Austin Aries. Now a 2 time winner, Aries to me is busting with potential. There are some guys that just "get it" and he is certainly one of them. This week, he had a quick match to get him over and it was the best match of the night in my opinion. Nothing incredible, but both men did well in it. He's obviously playing a heel which at this point is quite necessary for the X-Division. He's a natural in the role as his confidence as a performer is through the roof. That can easily come off as cockiness and he plays it off well. His post match interview is a good example of this and when he said something about the world title, I began to envision that belt around his waist. Yes, I do believe it's possible.
If Mr. Anderson can be a World Champ, Aries certainly can. In my opinion, his talent level far exceeds that of Anderson in every aspect of being a professional wrestler. The only thing holding him back is his size, but being around the same size as Chris Jericho tells me that he could be taken seriously on a main event level. If built right, this guy could be a major star for TNA and one they can certainly stake claim with as he's never graced the rings in WWE.
Some people are just naturals and this guy is it. He impressed me yet again and in just one short month, Austin Aries has earned his second IMPACT player of the week award. Since no one else has a say in this, you might just see him winning this award again. I try and spread it out, but if you're good, you're good. Until next week TNA fans.............
